Chair in Construction Management

School of Architecture and Built Environment
University of Newcastle

The Construction Management group in the School of Architecture and Built Environment at the University of Newcastle is celebrating its 20th anniversary, and is seeking to appoint a new Chair. Since its inception the group has established an enviable reputation for educational excellence, winning multiple awards that reflect its commitment to innovative delivery and assessment. The Discipline has placed particular importance on industry relevance, both in terms of flexible access for distance learners, and content that uniquely enables its Bachelor of Construction Management (Building) degree to hold multiple accreditations, giving graduates access to a wide range of professions. This innovation is reflected in the programme's popularity, which has seen student numbers treble in the last 8 years.

At the same time the Discipline has striven to build upon its research capabilities, having a staff with one of the highest concentrations of construction-related PhD holders in the country, and it is anticipated that all staff will have doctorates within 2 years. Concurrently the Discipline is experiencing an increase in postgraduate research higher degree enrolments. The Discipline has at various times been a node for a Cooperative Research Centre, held Australian Research Council, Australian Learning and Teaching Council, and other competitive research grants, and undertaken research and consultancy commissioned by professional institutes and commercial organisations.

It is in this context that the Discipline now seeks applications for the position of Chair in Construction Management from people who have both an appropriate vision for its future, and the requisite leadership characteristics to transform it into a world-class unit. The tenure for the Chair will be founded on three core values: vision, leadership, and partnership.
