Professor of History
University of Newcastle
The Faculty of Education and Arts is seeking a dynamic and motivated historian with an established international profile to lead research in the recently established Centre for the History of Violence.
The history of violence has become a key area of research in the School of Humanities and Social Science and the Humanities Research Institute at the University of Newcastle, with considerable resource investment committed to this project over the coming years. The Humanities Research Institute is the flagship of the School of Humanities and Social Science research environment. The newly established position will work closely with a team of researchers to develop a bid for an ARC Centre of Excellence in the History of Violence, to provide vision in developing research projects, and to identify future research opportunities for both the History discipline and the School.
The successful candidate will be required to collaborate with colleagues in an inter-disciplinary research environment consisting of academics, postgraduate candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and external stakeholders such as museums, media outlets and cultural institutions. Candidates will be expected to have an outstanding track record in attracting major research funds for international projects, convening international conferences and sponsoring major publications. The field of research is open but preference will be given to candidates working in the modern era.
The position is based at the University’s Callaghan campus. The professorial appointment will be full-time. It may be offered as a continuing appointment or as a five-year contract with the opportunity for renewal.
