The Hong Kong Polytechnic University wishes to appoint a Chair Professor of Fashion and Textile Design to the Institute of Textiles and Clothing.  This is a newly created position which reflects the importance of the growing area of fashion and textile design in Hong Kong and the region.  The Institute is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and forward looking designer with a high track record in fashion and textile design.  The Chair will be expected to provide leadership in all aspects of academic activities, including teaching, research, and consultancy in the Institute of Textiles and Clothing.  The mission of the Institute is to be the centre of excellence in fashion and textile education regionally and internationally.  Hence the Chair Professor will play an important role in leading the Institute in this endeavour.

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is the largest government-funded tertiary institution in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) in terms of student numbers.

The Institute of Textiles and Clothing is a constituent unit of the Faculty of Applied Science and Textiles, and is the sole provider of tertiary education in textiles and clothing in Hong Kong.  The courses offered by the Institute range from postgraduate, undergraduate to sub-degree programmes, covering the whole spectrum of activities in fashion and textiles.  The Institute has approximately 2,500 student enrolments and over 70 full-time academic staff.  There are three major disciplinary areas, namely fashion and textile design, fashion technology and fashion retailing & merchandising.
